A group of students from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) which by last week had come up with a Uganda National Bereau of Standards (UNBS) certified hand sanitizer have come up to decry the people who have duplicated their product.
Sanidrop, like its name suggests is a hand sanitizer that takes only a drop to kill germs and was developed by a group of students from MUST. The group was spearheaded by Ms Nuriat Nambogo through the students innovation hub at the institution known as CAMTECH.
These students say that the first challenge they had was the supermarkets which used to sell their product at Shs.7,000 after attaining it at Shs.4,000 from their laboratory but they were perhaps not ready for their biggest blow.
As it turns out now, the biggest challenge they’re facing is that there is someone on the market who is producing a duplicate of their product, packaging it the same way theirs is packaged and selling it at Shs.20,000.
This, they say, comes in a period when the product is on high demand and customers can pay whichever amount to obtain it.
“It is disgusting that someone can duplicate our product and decide to sell it on a price that is very high in the market which has made many people lose trust in our product.” Ms Nambogo told Campus Bee.
The team leader called upon authorities to reign in on the culprits and either make them pay damages or arrest them for taking advantage of the situation.
