Mbarara University of Science and Technology has celebrated its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika, after she was recognized as one of the Top Global Health Leaders under the EDCTP programmes, a major international research platform supporting health innovation in Africa.
In a congratulatory message shared by the university community, MUST praised Prof. Byakika-Kibwika’s outstanding contribution to infectious disease research, particularly her work on malaria treatment and the interactions between antimalarial and antiretroviral medicines.
The recognition places the Ugandan physician and researcher among leading scientists whose work is shaping healthcare systems and strengthening research capacity across the continent.
According to the message issued on behalf of the university community, her research has focused on tackling infectious diseases that continue to disproportionately affect sub-Saharan Africa, with a strong emphasis on translating science into better public health outcomes.
The university also hailed her role as both a mentor and academic leader, noting that her stewardship continues to inspire researchers, students, and faculty at MUST.
“Her work addressing infectious diseases that disproportionately affect sub-Saharan Africa is truly commendable,” the congratulatory message read.
The message, signed by Chancellor Prof. Jack Nyeko Pen-Mogi, further commended her dedication to strengthening health systems and building scientific capacity across Africa.
Prof. Byakika-Kibwika’s latest recognition adds to the growing list of Ugandan scholars earning global acclaim for high-impact research, especially in areas critical to Africa’s disease burden.
Her achievement is also expected to further boost MUST’s reputation as one of Uganda’s leading institutions in medical research, science, and innovation.
