During the last day of the ICPAU Annual Seminar that was held at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe and Online, the institute awarded several CPAs. The three-day seminar was concluded on Friday, December 10 with the 2021 Accountancy Service Awards (ASA).
The awards appreciated finance teams and accountants that have made remarkable contributions towards assisting their organisations, clients and communities to succeed.
While speaking at the award ceremony, CPA Ronald Mutumba, the Chairperson of the Member Services Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda noted that 2020/2021 was a tough period, however, with the resilience exhibited and technological adoptions, many businesses were able to sail through the uncertain times to victory.
“Because of this, the COVID Lifeline Award was introduced to recognise individuals who responded to the challenges brought about by the pandemic with resilience and efforts in supporting livelihoods.” Mutumba revealed.
The COVID Lifeline Award was scooped by Prof Patrick Ogwang, the Champion of COVIDEX, a 100% natural herbal supportive treatment in management of viral infections. Ogwang is a lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology – MUST.

CPA Assoc. Prof. Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase ( Deputy Katikkiro, Buganda Kingdom) was also recognized for spearheading sensitization drives about COVID-19 vaccination in Buganda Kingdom. CPA Assoc. Prof. Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase also won the ICPAU Gold Award.
The Young Accountant of the Year Award was won by CPA Cosmas Ssenyonga from Retirements Benefits Fund. Ssenyonga was awarded for his insightful and great influence of positive change in the retirement benefits sector.
Other winners include; CPA Kalinda Gonzaga who emerged CPA of the Year, Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Uganda (Finance Team of the Year), Springs Tugye and Associates LLP. Who won the Accounting Firm of the Year Award.
