Mutesa 1 Royal University Electoral Commission authorities have disqualified a guild president aspirant for misconduct.
Francis Baraija a second year student of Civil Engineering has been disqualified from the Guild president race over misconduct.
According to the University Electoral Commission Chairperson, Perez Tusasirwe, Baraija was kicked out by the university screening committee which Okays and rebukes candidates. He says that according to the information they have received from the committee that is headed by the Dean of Students, with other university officials such as academic registrar and university bursar.
Tusasirwe says that the committee rebuked Baraija’s application on grounds that he had been convicted by the university disciplinary committee which is against the university electoral laws.
Baraija has however, dismissed the allegations of misconduct saying that it was planned by the university administration to disqualify him because the university sympathies with one of the candidate in the race.
He says that he is ready to fight for his rights and students right asking his supporter to rally behind National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Irene Nyafwono whom he said that has the same manifesto like his which will fight for student’s rights.
Other contestants in the race include Uganda Young Democrats (UYD)’s Nuliat Nakiito a second year student of Mass communication who has been the Guild speaker. Nakiito has promised to write to the district council to construct the road that links the university to Katwe when elected as the guild president and improve sanitation at the campus.
Forum for Democratic Change’s Saidi Nasasira Junior a second year student of Bachelors of Commerce said that he will work tirelessly to see that the university has accessible internet services which are one of the challenges affecting the students and Improve student’s welfare.
Irene Nyafwono a second year student of Human Resource of NRM has promised to fight for student’s rights and fair representation of their ideas to the administrators and fighting oppressing and abrupt policies.
The elections are slated for 8th may this Friday.
