Makerere University has joined the international community in mourning the death of former Kenyan president, Mwai Kibaki.
The former ‘Makererean’ sadly passed away today (April 22nd) age 90, leaving behind a great legacy, part of which his alma matter wished to celebrate.
“As Makerere University, we mourn the loss of our Gallant alumnus, H.E Dr. Emilio Mwai Kibaki. He lived a life that exemplified values which are the bed rock of Makerere University,” Makerere University noted.
The institution went ahead to disclose the former student’s outstanding record while at the great hill. Kibaki was specifically enrolled at the famous College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), where he excelled with flying colors.
“H.E Dr. Mwai Kibaki was the First scholar to be awarded a First class Honors Degree from @MakCoBAMS when he graduated with a First Class Honors Degree (BA) in Economics,” the university statement added.

Mwai Kibaki, was a notable Kenyan politician who served as the third President of Kenya from December 2002 until April 2013.
He had previously served as the fourth Vice-President of Kenya for ten years from 1978 to 1988 under President Daniel Arap Moi. He also held cabinet ministerial positions in the Kenyatta and Moi governments, including time as minister for Finance (1969–1981) under Kenyatta, and Minister for Home Affairs (1982–1988) and Minister for Health (1988–1991) under Moi.
