Julie Nambatya, the MUBS final year student who breathed her last on the weekend after drowning during a boat cruise get together will be laid to rest at 4pm today.
Last night, a vigil was held at her parent’s home in Makindye where friends, classmates and family came together to celebrate her life and pray for her dear soul.
Among all that shared sad narratives was her mom (names withheld) who said that her daughter asked for extra pocket money saying it was a mandatory exercise.
“She asked for money saying the trip was mandatory and her friend came for her on friday afternoon.
I gave them the money and told them to take care. Little did I know that I was seeing her for the last time. I was told at Jinja Police station that it was organised by friends and not the university,” – Julie’s mother in tears narrated last moments with her daughter.
Talking to Gild Busingye, one of the survivors of the accident, she said the wind was so strong and the boat was over powered. They fell in water and everyone just prayed to God to have their sins forgiven before they die.
“We reached a point were everyone was praying to have our sins forgiven. We had to swim but Julie failed to and drowned. By the time the life guard came, she was already unconscious and died on her way to hospital,” Busingye told us breaking into tears.
Julie will be laid to rest today at 4pm in Masaka. May her soul rest in peace.
