Makerere University has postponed end of semester 2 exams for the academic year 2023/2024 to allow students participate in the national census.
The postponement follows a directive from the ministry of education and sports to have all educational institutions closed in order to allow students travel back home for the national census.
Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi said on Thursday, April 4, 2024 that the examinations have been postponed and will start May 21, 2024.
“In compliance with the directive, the chairperson, on behalf of the university senate has approved a decision to adjust the semester and examination calendar,” he said.
The examinations will, therefore, run from Tuesday, May 21, 2024 to June 11, 2024.
Students will be off campus starting May 10th to May 20th for an abrupt academic break that will see them travel home to be part of the national population census.
Other academic programs such as recess, and internship remain intact. The change doesn’t affect the commencement date for semester one academic year 2024/25.
National Population Census.
Uganda is set to conduct the National Population and housing Census 2024. The Census will be done in 10 days starting on 9th May 2024 to 19th May 2024.
The President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, launched the NPHC 2024 activity on December 12th, 2023. The census is done after every 10 years.
The census figures play a critical role in guiding planning, policy formulation, and programme implementation as well as monitoring development progress in line with the national goals and objectives.
