Prof Maggie Kigozi, a farmer and businesswoman was today appointed Chairperson of Board of Trustees for the Makerere University Endowment Fund. Prof Kigozi, who also doubles as rapper Daniel Kigozi alias Navio’s mother revealed that she is humbled to take over as the second chairperson.
“It is an honor and I am humbled to have been appointed to serve as the second chairperson of the board of trustees for the Endowment fund,” Prof Kigozi said shortly after her appointment.
According to Ms Lorna Magara, the Makerere University Council Chairperson, the aim of setting up the fund was to develop a sustainable financial base for the university. She further revealed that the fund has over UGX 9 billion ready to be invested by Prof Kigozi and her newly inaugurated board.
“We have 9bn shillings which is now available for Prof. Maggie Kigozi and her team to invest,” Magara said.

While speaking at the inauguration of the Board of Trustees of Makerere University Endowment Fund, Prof Kigozi vowed to set up a dedicated website for online presence and how to contribute to the fund.
“We shall reach out to our alumni and profile them, have a dedicated website for online presence and how to contribute to the fund. “ Prof Kigozi promised.
“When I was appointed chairperson of the board, I took time to read, Universities create endowment funds to create reputable capital and hedge against financial shocks,” she added.
Prof. Kigozi is a consultant at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. She also served as the Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority, from 1999 until 2011.
