A head of the Uganda Christian University (UCU) main campus general guild elections 2017/18 take will taking place on the 2nd of November, the Electoral Commission has organized the “Guild Presidential Debate” to have the candidates persuade their voters about their plans for the university.
NBS TV Charles Odongtho from the popular NBS front line will be moderating the debate.
Three students, Gulume Mark Ernest (Bachelors of Computer Science), Owere Hannington (Bachelors of Mass Communication) and Barasha Duncan (Bachelors of Business Administration) are the candidates for the position of guild president that are currently diverting the students of the Christian based institution from their Christian values.
The campaign mood is somewhat tense, with all the camps displaying a certain form of unruliness, chaos, noise, hooliganism and display of some sort of financial might evidenced by the sizes and numbers of posters pinned all over the university compound, as if some sort of a competition.
Supporters in the night can be seen and heard blowing vuvuzelas, screaming names of their candidates, and casting their opponents away. The candidates have also hired cars with annoyingly loud sound systems that dangle them all over Mukono, Bugujju, Wandegeya to the residences of the students in quest for that loyal supporter who will cast a vote in their favour.
The debate tonight will prove to the students who exactly is worthy being their leader to front their views with the administration. The candidates will be questioned about the plans for the university, asked to share their campaign manifesto, and perhaps persuade supporters to change camps.
There is usually immense chaos at the university during any presidential debates, and this normally forces the university to deploy tight security at the venue. The debate will take place at Nkoyoyo Hall from 8pm.
