The regulator of Uganda higher Education, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has finalized steps to grant a full Charter to Victoria University.
This was revealed by Dr. Lawrence Muganga, the University Vice Chancellor after receiving a confirmation letter from the NCHE Deputy Executive Director Rev. Cannon Dr. Alex M. Kagume.
“Dear colleagues, I have the pleasure to announce to you all that Victoria University has been granted charter,” Dr. Muganga communicated.
In a letter dated 15th December from NCHE, Victoria University has been tasked to pay statutory license fees totaling to UGX 15 Million so as to be fully given a charter.
“Reference is made to an application made by Victoria University to NCHE for the grant of a charter. This is to inform you that council during its 63rd meeting held on 13th December 2021, considered and resolved to recommend to the minister, the grant of a charter to Victoria university in accordance with section 10 (3) of the universities and other tertiary institutions act 2001 as amended,’’ the letter reads in part.
“The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the council decision regarding the grant of a charter to Victoria university and require you to pay the statutory license fees of UGX 15000000 to NCHE. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you upon this achievement and to wish you success in your institution,’’ the letter concludes.
