Ndejje University has ventured into online registration and an electronic system of accessing academic documents as well as use of a smart card to access various university facilities.
Termed as Zeeversity, the online platform is meant to make registration with the university, quicker, easy access of information about student and as well make payments more convenient.
The ZeeVersity system will replace old modes of paying fees directly using bank slips and use of meal cards, lecture attendance cards and library user cards. Upon registration, a student will be issued with a smart card and all information about the student such as date of birth, course year and all fees payment are stored and retrieved electronically from the smartcard.
The card will also be used to access facilities such as meals library and lecture room and any one without it will, according to the university officials, not be able to use most of the university facilities.
Though the system will be faster and reliable, some students have welcomed the idea while a number of others show discontent since those who have not cleared fees fully or paid the required fees amount might not find life easy because without the card, almost all facilities are inaccessible.
The card will also be obtained at a fee and yearly renewal of the card is required at another cost, a policy some students are not happy with and argue that it will lead to increment in already exorbitant fees.
The head of Information Communication Technology (I.C.T) Department, Ndejje University Mr Moses Nviri says the system will bring efficiency and eliminate issues of miss management of fees and allow access to one’s academic results at the comfort of their homes.
“The system is capable of retrieving a student’s academic results and all information regarding fees payment, dates and fees balance at just a click of a button from any where you are and you have access to internet,” Nviri said.
Though students have finished registering for the system, the cards are not yet issued out and Nviri says they are working to ensure that the system is effective and cost friendly in real time. As per now, students can continue using the old system of payment using bank slips as the department is carrying out more sensitization about the system such that all students can use it easily and with ease.
