Hundreds of Ugandan University sports students are in Mekelle, the outskirts of the city of Adis Ababa in Ethiopia to compete in the 9th edition of the Africa University Games.
The students will participate in over twenty games disciplines such as football, athletics, boxing, karate, judo, basketball, swimming, rugby among others. Among Ugandan universities present are Ndejje University, Makerere University and Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono who will compete with universities from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia and several other regions of the continent.
The sports women and men camped early Tuesday at the games village of Mekelle in the highlands of Ethiopia with already ongoing matches of football and basketball.
Today in Basketball, Ndejje will face Adigrat University while Makerere will lock horns with Adis Ababa university while UCU will face off later in the day in Badminton and table tennis. However, it is a good start for Ugandan Universities as they have so far won their first games with Ndejje beating Adis Ababa University by 76- 47 basketball.
The previous edition of the Africa University games took place in 2015 in Johannesburg South Africa where Ndejje University emerged second in all the game tally.
