Ndejje University has unveiled plans of fulfilling all the ideas of its core founders who gave the university a strong Christian setting with the latest being plans to construct a multimillion storied university chapel.
The University is set to build a state of the art chapel that will house the entire offices for the chaplaincy as well as serve as a boardroom for coordinating church activities within the university and neighboring areas. The University chapel will be constructed at the main campus in Luwero with funding from the Anglican church and funds from the university.
Speaking during the launch and groundbreaking ceremony, the University Chaplain Rev. Latimer Muwanguzi said the chapel will house offices of the chaplain, the religious minister, a board room, a 2000 seater prayer auditorium and enough office space for all religious activities within the campus.
“We need a bigger university chapel to accommodate all the students and staff during prayers. This is why we have embarked on constructing this chapel and we believe by the grace of God it will be erected soon,’’ he said.
The University is currently having a chapel hall but with the overwhelming number of students, the hall cannot accommodate everyone leaving some students sitting outside in tents.
Ndejje University is a Christian based university co-owned by the six dioceses of the church of Uganda (Anglican). It is the first and the oldest known private university in Uganda set up in 1992. Due to its Christian based nature, the university has the highest number of students who are Christians with a number of others in other religions.
Although the university belongs to the Anglican church, it is open to all people irrespective of tribe and religion. Ndejje is currently having two campuses with the main campus in Luwero while the other campus in Mengo-Kampala.
