After several fundraising drives, ranging from Car wash to Fitness run, Ndejje University held the Fitness week to help raise funds to foot medical bills for Hellen Kyomuhendo who is battling with kidney complications.
Kyomuhendo needs Shs 150 million to travel to India for a kidney transplant, and the university has been holding various fundraising events to get the needed money because her family has been unable to raise it.
Kyomuhendo, who is a mother to one, is also a sister to Fred Barungi, a lecturer at Ndejje’s department of Information Technology.
The fitness run that took place yesterday saw students, staff and well wishers participate in several sporting activities to contribute to the drive. Hundreds flocked Ndejje football pitch to participate at a fee of Shs 2000, even though most students decided to contribute even more.
Moved by the urgent need to save Kyomuhendo’s worsening health, students also set up contribution boxes and pinned banners all over the campus with tags “Save Hellen”, “kidney for Hellen” and also launched several hash tags on social media plat forms.
According to Kyomuhendo’s close relative, she was diagnosed with kidney failure and was told that she urgently needs kidney transplant in India before the end of December this year.
The fundraising is still on and funds can be channeled through her mobile money numbers 0773916919 or 0701916919 and account number 3720102777 in Centenary bank.
