Ndejje University is set to receive a financial boast from government to aid in the upgrading of the institution’s sports complex ahead of the 12th edition of the East Africa University games.
President Yoweri Museveni instructed the Finance Minister, Honourable Matia Kasaija to hasten the funding of the sports complex upgrade in order to have it ready by December for the East Africa University games.
The directive is a result of the engagement between Ndejje University management and President Museveni at state house last Thursday.
The upgrade will see the swimming pool turned into an olympic dimension, outdoor courts turned into all weather facilities with canopies, the restaurant and training centers will also get a new look.
Peninnah Kabenge, the president Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) says she is happy that one of the members is a beneficiary from the presidential aid and believes many more institutions will benefit from the upgraded sports complex.
“AS AUUS, we are very happy that one of our members is benefiting from the president’s helping hand. I think other institutions will also benefit from the facilities at Ndejje,” she said.
Over seventy universities are expected to participate in the 12th edition of the East African games that will be held at Ndejje University main campus in Luweero.
The East African University games had come to a temporary halt following the outbreak of Covid-19 with the last edition (11th) held in Dodoma Tanzania.
