Former Makerere University Guild Boss Julius Kateregga, who is also the current KCCA representative to Makerere University council, is battling a backlash against his alleged meeting with Museveni’s brother Salim Saleh.
The backlash followed a comment made by Kateregga about his rejection to meet with president Museveni during the 2019 Makerere University fees-must-fall protests.
“When I was still Guild President, I refused to meet the President because he wanted to meet me personally, yet I wanted him to meet the students,” Kateregga said. He made the comment while appearing on NBS’s morning breeze on Friday morning.
However, his comment has received a harsh reception from netizens, some of whom actively participated in the protest. These allege that Kateregga met with Museveni’s brother Salim Saleh and received a lumpsum of money to compensate students whose property had been destroyed during the protest.
“Yet you went behind closed doors and met Salim Saleh, got money from him and then went and lied to parliament about a very serious issue. Shut the fuck up man. You don’t know the ruin your cowardice caused,” @AnnahAshaba said.
Ali Musa Moses (@MosesAliMusa) says Kateregga did not deliver the money and he is simply looking for sympathy and support.
“This fool received money meant for compensation of students that had lost their property from Gen.Salim Saleh, he never delivered the money. Now he is here trying to look for sympathy and support from his gullible voters,” @MosesAliMusa said.
Robert Mutesa further alleged that Kateregga who was voted as a councilor in Kawempe South (Bwaise 2, 3and Makerere 1,2,3 ) has done nothing for his constituents.
“This is the guy who was voted to be the lord councilor for Kawempe south and has done nothing he is no where to be seen he is paid to put the young peoples hope to rest,” @RobertMutesa said.
Kateregga Julius has not yet made a public defense about the allegations of him having met Museveni’s brother Salim Saleh.
