Nigerian Dancehall and Afro-pop artiste, Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie popularly known by his stage name Patoranking has awarded Amos Kasumba, a Bugema University student, a fully paid scholarship to African Leadership University (ALU) in Mauritius.
Kasumba is among the 10 Africans who were selected from thousands of applications from exceptional young people from 45 African countries.
Other awardees of the scholarships are Chidera Nnadozie (Nigeria), Abdulmaleek Usman (Nigeria), Emmanuel Markwei (Ghana), Hardness Range (Tanzania), Hanisani Nleya (Zimbabwe), Kafumba S. Daramay (Liberia), Emmanuel Okorwoit (Kenya), Sandra Mugeniwayesu (Rwanda), and Youssouf Ouedraogo (Burkina Faso).
Patoranking acknowledged the initiative and assured to cater for all their expenses during their study at the University.
“These young Africans have distinguished themselves through their vision, resilience, and the impact they have already made in their communities, despite their financial limitations. They have demonstrated exceptional potential in becoming part of the next generation of leaders that will greatly improve the continent and it’s the potential impact that I see them making that gets me excited.” Patoranking said.
“I will be following up personally with each of these Patoranking Scholarship beneficiaries throughout the duration of their study at ALU, and will support their development into entrepreneurial leaders,” he added.
The Director of Admissions at ALU, Tino Elgner lauded the students upon their successful submissions.
“We are excited to receive these 10 Patoranking scholars to both our Rwanda and Mauritius Campuses. The scholarship was highly contested and these young Africans were able to stand out clearly with an impressive story. We are even more confident that they will go on to create positive change starting from their communities” Elgner said.
Patoranking who boasts of over 2.5 million followers on twitter and over 6 million more on Instagram, has made major waves over the last couple of years with his unique blend of Dancehall, Reggae, and Afrobeats that has allowed him to create a distinct sound recognized by many.
