On Saturday 9th October, 2021, the Republic of Uganda celebrated 59 years of Independence. To mark the day, music lovers were treated to an online concert dubbed “Uganda At 59 Concert” sponsored by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance and Nile Special.
Split into two sessions; the first from 4pm to 7pm, and the second from 10pm to 2am. the show was broadcast live on NBS Television with both sessions recording wild views from Ugandans across the divide. Several top Ugandan artistes, deejays, emcees, dancers, and comedians graced the event that was staged and produced at Next Media Park.
Performances for the show came from among others, Azawi, Sheebah, Ykee Benda, Nince Henry, Ziza Bafana, Irene Ntale, King Saha, Recho Rey, Eezzy, Lydia Jazmine, and DJ Roja.
Nile Special used the concert to preach economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the related difficulties that have affected especially, the leisure and hospitality sector. The beer maker used the chance to call upon the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for the nation to achieve the 4.8 million vaccination mark that President Museveni put as the pre-requisite for the re-opening of bars.
“Because to beat the pandemic that has taken away many of our freedoms, we need each other more than ever before. Let’s get vaccinated, wear masks, social distance, wash and sanitize our hands. And when we finally get our freedoms back, we will truly appreciate and celebrate independence.” Nile Special said in a statement.
Nile Breweries, the makers of Nile Special, has in the past weeks conducted vaccination exercises at the brewery and other designated places to increase uptake of the vaccine among the population with the ultimate goal of enabling quicker reach to 4.8 Million vaccinated Ugandans.
