As you may be aware, residents of Nkrumah Hall and Nsibirwa yesterday besieged the Makerere University main building and threatened not to leave until their lack of WiFi is addressed.
They stormed members of the University Management Committee (Chaired by the Vice Chancellor) who were in a meeting in the boardroom and presented their grievances.
A letter was immediately issued to the University bursar to relay funding for the new Fibre Optic Cable that was cut during the landscaping of the Nursery School just below the two halls.
The demonstration seems to have been a very successful one. Today the workers have started working on the repairs and we can confirm that by the end of the day, the Wi-Fi will be available.
Mr. Okiror Nelly, the headmaster of the Nursery School and former Activist himself (Nkrumah Hall resident) made the assurance when we visited the site.
“We used a caterpillar to uproot tree trunks so as to level the ground but we had no idea there were transmission wires for internet.”
He further said that the internet will be available within the next three hours.
When contacted, the students had no kind words for the University Management. Kisembo Adolf, a resident of Nkrumah Hall was blazed up.
“You see this is what is wrong with the administration. They seem to send a message to us that the only way we can ever achieve anything is by demonstration. This is not good for the University.”
