All is not well at the Nkumba-based institution after the Dean of Students issued a notice outlawing FDC party activities inside the University.
According to the speaker of the FDC Nkumba University chapter, Mr. Esomu Simon, the dean’s decision was prompted by a letter to him from the party that was informing him of the party’s planned activities for the semester.
Mr. Esomu says that the dean selectively precluded the party from conducting business inside the campus on the premise that the university’s guidelines do not allow partisan politics on campus and yet other parties such as NRM are allowed to freely pin up posters and and gather inside the campus as well as conducting other partisan politics affairs.
Following the same, the FDC Nkumba Chapter has made a strongly-worded response to the dean, complaining about the “high-handedness and unconstitutionalism” with which he made the impugned decision.
As such, through a letter signed by the chapter’s President Mr. Byansi Henry, its Secretary General Ziwa George and the Speaker Mr. Esomu Simon, the Nkumba University FDC Chapter has given the dean a twenty-four hour ultimatum within which to reverse his decision or face the music. They contend that the decision impinges on their Constitutional freedom of association and expression.
