During the 26th coronation of the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, Prof Wilson Muyinda Mande, the Vice-Chancellor of Nkumba University advised the Kabaka to join social media platforms as a way of connecting with his young subjects.
According to Muyinda, some of Nkumba University students have been waiting for the Kabaka to join social media, and they can’t wait to connect with him. Muyinda was speaking at the ceremony, hosted at Nkumba University.
“Your Majesty, these young people now hang out on the internet. They get information from platforms like Facebook, Twitter and the iCloud. They have sent me to request you to join these social media platforms so that you can connect with them” Muyinda said.
Muyinda further revealed that a group of students at the university contributed money to buy an iPad for the Kabaka, which he requested him to accept. In his response, the Kabaka simply smiled and waved which probably means he approved.
Other Buganda Kingdom leaders like the Prime Minister (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga are already on social media. If he joins, the Kabaka will be among thousands of Ugandans on social media, as well as OTT tax payers.
