The Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University, Prof. Elly Katunguka has warned students of the Banda based Institution against riotous behaviour in protest against the Academic Information Management System (AIMS).
In a voice message recorded and distributed to the Kyambogo fraternity, Prof. Katunguka acknowledged the fact that the system is slow and has multiple errors. He informed that the system has over 10,000 people trying to access it at once thus exhibiting delays.
He informed that the ICT team under the Director of ICT is working tirelessly to ensure that AIMS can be accessible to as many students as possible so that they can Register and prepare for examinations. He therefore advised students to continue trying until they get registered.
The Vice Chancellor also cautioned that no one will be allowed near the examination room without evidence of registration on the AIMS.
“I would like to inform you that no student will be allowed to sit examinations without registering. Most of these people who have not paid tuition are the ones disrupting activities but we shall not give them space to do so,” said Prof. Katunguka.
This followed a protest at Senate where students raided the administration in demand for answers in relation to the dysfunctional Academic Information Management System.
However, students are not satisfied with the Vice Chancellor’s comments. They claim that the system was introduced late and is therefore disrupting registration and access to examination cards due to so many errors.
“They told us that we shall recieve examination cards today. How come they have not been issued out. All this is an effect of the AIMS. They should acknowledge that they failed to plan,” a student commented on the Vice’s communication.
