“Excitement” is such an understatement to describe the current situation at Uganda Christian University as later on today, from 3pm to 7pm at Nkoyoyo Hall, the UCU Law Society will entertain the masses to the tunes of the Presidential Debate. This will be a battle between two Law School giants namely Price Kaliisa a Second Year Law student Kabasiita Shammah who is in her third year of study.
Briefly, about the two candidates starting with Price Kaliisa. Popular for his French Campaign Slogan “Vox Populi” directly translated as “Voice of the People”, this gentleman presents himself as humble but intelligent soul that wishes to drive the law society to greater heights. His manifesto is based on four major points; firstly, Accountability & Transparency, Secondly Academic performance, social welfare and finally timely execution of programs.
Alternatively, the beautiful Kabasiita Shammah boasts of her strong passion for equality, social justice and human dignity. This candidate is famous for her efforts in spearheading the Toro People’s Conference for Community Development, an association popular for promoting the livelihood of the region.
Her manifesto denotes a 5 point programme that she seeks to use in running the Law Society; Financing, Accountability, Student Based Society, External Relations and finally Social Activities. She further seeks to liberate Law students through the law as derived from her slogan “Freedom through the law”.
While interviewing the Chairperson of the UCU Law Society Electoral Commission,
He further informed us that this debate is going to be one of a kind as candidates for other positions and not just the Presidential Seat will participate in this debate too. He contended that this debate will basically test intellect, reasoning abilities and organised oratory. The questions from the panel will be based on logic, arithematrics, the law, general knowledge and current affairs on both the international and local scene.
From the team, at Campus Bee, we wish all the candidates good luck.
