One of the leading contestants in the Makerere University guild race has come out to strongly refute allegations linking him to the crime preventers grouping.
Speaking exclusively to Campusbee, Ssembogga Roy categorically dispelled the said rumours, calling them “concoctions prepared and served icy cold by political opponents hell-bent on tainting my person so as to dissuade potential voters from endorsing my candidature”.
The bald-headed 4th year student popularly known at his hall of residence as “solar panel” has expressed concern over a sustained social media smear campaign by one of his biggest competitors for the guild presidency – whom he refuses to mention – to dent his chances by creating fake accounts and paying off mercenaries to spread propaganda against his candidature.
“This candidates’ agents are the ones behind messages that have been circulating on social media purporting to discourage voters from voting candidates offering unserious courses, unlike medicine, while claiming that the same is sent by my camp.” adds Roy.
A political analyst consulted by this writer says that this year’s race is most likely to be won by the candidate whose camp makes the loudest noise at the rallies. “Going by trends from the past guild races, Makerere students are most likely to vote a candidate basing on how much popularity he/she has gained on the ground. The more noise a candidate’s supporters make, the more popular he appears to the voters.
However, when the race zeros down to only two candidates, victory may ultimately be tilted in favour of the camp which comes up with the most damaging ‘political chemical’ against the other camp.” adds the analyst.
