When NRM sneezes, Makerere university catches yellow fever. This phrase was brought to life on Saturday when Makerere university was painted a bold yellow. Students, and natives from the neighbourhood filled up the university, blowing vuvuzelas, and chanting pro- NRM songs.
Yellow banners were quickly put up! Preceded by the NRM campaign entertainers like Bebecool, And other local artists. The incumbent president drove in flanked by military jeeps, with flaming lights and the trademark drone at about 6:45PM from the Kawempe rally.
The frenzied crowd broke into ululations, brandishing thumbs up sign, the official NRM symbol and waving placards!
The growing darkness meant preliminary acts like, the national anthem, reception of gifts and acceptance of political converts couldn’t be carried out.
The president donning his trademark hat and yellow shirt picked off by delving into NRM achievements. He rhetorically asked
“Is electricity tribalistic?
“Kare, the roads religious sensitive?” the crowd responded with a resounding no.
“They belong to us all!”
Museveni appeared to chastised Kampala opposition politicians who he apparently compared to vermin!
“When Kampala rats had become a menace, we invented a bitter pill in the form of Musiisi (Jennifer,) the KCCA executive director. Did you not see what Musiisi did to Kafumbe Mukasa road rats?”
“Musiisi is a bitter pill, we have to find a way of regulating her bitterness without rendering her ineffective!”
He added if he’d fought against guns in the bush, there’s no way rats would fail him.
He promised more 6 lane roads, promising to inject sh.10bn into NAADS, sh.234bn into women empowerment, and sh.180bn into soft livelihood loans.
Speaking in Luganda the entire time, he promised he’d construct a wall fence around Makerere university.
Students take
“Well, Museveni has been at the helm of peaceful leadership, he has had mistakes but his achievements are no doubt commendable!” intimated Waldah Namukisa, a year two student.
Lydia Murungi, a 2nd year Literature student had no kind words imploring Museveni to quit.
“Museveni has overstayed in power, he deserves to rest!”
