The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has won round one of the lawsuit a KIU student filed questioning the legality of its its Primaries Elections Guidelines of 2015.
The matter before Court today concerned an application that the student made to court in a bid to have it temporarily suspend the implementation of NRM’s guidelines until it had disposed of the main suit.
In his ruling, Judge Yasin Nyanzi has held that it would be very inconveniencing on the side of NRM as an injunction would greatly interfere with the party’s electoral activities and interfere with its plans for the 2016 general elections.
“I find that NRM party would greatly be prejudiced by the grant of the orders sought for…I [therefore] exercise my discretion by refusing refusing to grant the orders.”
Isaac K. Ssemakadde, Okori’s lawyer has expressed concern that up to now, court has set not a date to hear the main case which is in contravention of his client’s right to a speedy hearing.
On his side, the KIU student seemed unfazed. “I am still confident that my issues will be justly handled in the main case. I am very sure I will win.”
Asked whether he is now going to pick nomination forms before NRM’s primaries are concluded on 31st July, Okori maintained his stance that he will not pick the forms since the whole process is being conducted illegally.
