The NSSF Career Expo will, on Tuesday and Thursday , showcase in Kampala International University in Kansanga and Nkumba University in Entebbe respectively.

In its 8th year running, the expo brings together various employers and business persons who will interact with students and advise them on what they want to do with their lives after school.

Students of KIU and Nkumba Universities will have an opportunity to interact with the best employers like Monitor Publications, KCCA, URA, Post Bank, NTV Uganda and House Finance among others.

Every year, 180,00 new graduates from 40 universities and 90,000 graduates from vocational institutions join Uganda’s limited job market. While their academic qualification is a starting point, it is not enough anymore for one to favorably compete for the scarce jobs. A prospecting job seeker today must have skills that put him/her ahead of the pack.

According to the NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba , the expo will empower students with the right knowledge and skills to start and sustain profitable careers. NSSF started the NSSF Career Expo to offer professional career advice as well as an opportunity to engage with potential employers.

The expo is expected to benefit over 10,000 university students in 11 universities across the country. Other universities where NSSF will showcase the expo include Makerere University Business School, Kyambogo University, Ndejje University, Mutesa I University, Uganda Martyrs Nkozi, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Islamic University in Uganda Gulu University.

Students will also have an opportunity to register for NSSF as they prepare to enter the job market, as well as benefit from the KCCA Employment Services Bureau where students have an opportunity to further develop their entrepreneurial and employment skills basing on knowledge acquired during the expo.

“The youth, especially university students, form a significant section of potential NSSF membership and that’s why we organize such empowerment initiatives to help them make informed career decisions, join a reputable pension scheme to start saving for retirement as they prepare for life after university and finally life during retirement,” Byarugaba said.

In the past, NSSF has reached out to more than 40,000 university students since it started the initiative in 2012. It the expo is part of the Fund’s corporate social investment agenda focusing on the Youth.
