Nantume Sanyu Aminah a resident of Mulago has been missing for over 4 months now and the Police has intensified search as her relatives and friends demand her whereabouts. Campus Bee has learned that Ms Nantume was taken away by unknown people after the 2021 general elections in January.

Nantume, who was the official polling agent for NationalUnity Platform’s president and flag bearer Hon. RobertKyangulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine at Katala Polling Station, was also in charge of his mobilization during the presidential campaigns.

“The 2021 campaign period has been a state of terror for us as opposition leaders and supporters. The government is currently targeting and arresting us all and many of our colleagues are being held in detention centers without being presented before courts of law.” Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson has been quoted saying in the past.

Nantume was allegedly arrested on the 18th of February 2021. Her relatives and friends claim the government was arresting all NUP polling agents and confiscating declaration forms from them ahead of a Supreme Court election petition that the NUP was going into. According to them, government agents sought to hide evidence of election malpractice that had sufficed on voting day.

Campus Bee has learned that she was detained at Nansana Police Station and later released on police bond. Her relatives and friends allege torture in detention which they blame on the responsible security organs.

After her release, she went on the run and has been missing for close to 4 months. Police has issued arrest warrant alerts for anyone who knows where she is hiding on charges of skipping bond.

Hon. Mathias Mpuga, the Leader of Opposition in Uganda, claims that Nantume is among the people still being held in illegal detention centers while decrying what he called deliberate targeting by government on opposition leaders and supporters. Mpuga says some of these people were picked up in broad day light never to be seen again.

In the past months, family members of Nantume including her children were arrested by police claiming they are supporting illegal political activities which may overthrow government.

Nantume is still on the police wanted list but up to now, noone knows where she is. Her family members are all in fear.

A close family member to Nantume said she is on the run to save her life after going through some of the worst experiences during her detention. The family member says her disappearance has caused panic with the family wondering whether she is still dead or alive but the police insists that she is still wanted for skipping bond.
