GRC aspirants at Kyambogo university have abandoned the National Unity Platform (NUP), accusing the party of being unfair during the ongoing electoral process. The aspirants allege that the party’s electoral committee is comprised of incompetent members who are not students at the institution.
This dissatisfaction with the party has divided its members into two, creating a camp of people power sloganeers, well clad in their red berets that believe they need not the NUP flag to succeed in the forthcoming elections.
The aspirants further allege that the party delegates are majorly NRM cadres while the party ‘die-hards’ were left out. An example is of a one Agea Tonny.
The aspirants have decided to abandon the party flag and opted for its emblem -the red beret, and the ‘people power’ slogan as they head in for the forthcoming election.
However, while speaking to the Bee, Musiiri David, the NUP head of institutions zeroed down the allegations. According to Musiiri, the party election advisory committee is and can be made up of anyone regardless of their belonging.
“An advisory committee member can come from any other university. Whoever is there is a member of NUP,” he said.
The Kyambogo university NUP chapter is set to select a flag bearer during its general assembly on the afternoon of 28th January 2022 at Kyambogo’s peace park.
