Olympia Hostel has reinstated fired custodian who was accused of sexually harassing female residents of the posh Kikoni hostel- Campus Bee has learnt. The notorious custodian popularly known as Reuben Nahabwe has been seen carrying about his duties as custodian, residents say.
Last year, students came out to share nasty experiences with Reuben and subsequently, a series of articles published by this campus news website mounted pressure on Olympia hostel management.
The Olympia residents have taken to social media vent their anger towards the hostel management for bringing back a custodian who makes them feel uncomfortable.
“This ruthless insensitive man walked in on me when I was coming from the bathroom in my underwear,” Esther, a resident of Olympia Hostel.
Esther further went ahead to state that very many girls at Olympia have suffered the wrath of the ‘sex pest’, Reuben
“At least one in every ten girls staying at Olympia has been sexually offended by Reuben. This man is not only an arrogant, rude, insensitive, and unjust person but also one who has gone ahead to undermine the wellbeing of not only girls but everyone staying at this hostel,” Esther said.
“Even after getting a room, one is not sure about their stay at Olympia because this man Reuben will come up to you at any time and ask you leave without a satisfying reason to mention but a few… I think it’s high time the management of Olympia discussed the dismissal of this fella and do what’s best for the business and not just an individual. For God and my country,” she continued.
A resident cried out on Twitter; “Admin.. pliz push for Rueben to leave olympia hostel! He really sexually harasses girls, he inappropriately touches girls, l hv seen him do this to one of my friends. The hostel management seems adamant to our complaints, He shd never hv returned, he is a threat to the girl child.”
“Admin, this is the problem of living in a shady, corrupt and uncivilised country. Like this Olympia Hostel thing, we should know the owner. It should be on public record as would be with any business. There should be a name.
That way we know who to call and ask why a sexual predator was ‘fired’ once (honestly he was just hidden so the claims could die down) but then reinstated. When this many people have bad reviews about your employee, you fire them because it will tarnish the name of your hostel. Doesn’t matter whether he’s family. 😠” one of the students tweeted.
A committee of inquiry was instituted by the students guild to investigate the allegations against Reuben but no report has been released.
