A tragic incident at Victorious School has left Ugandans heartbroken and demanding answers after a pupil, identified as Kalama Juan, reportedly died while swimming. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, prompting prominent voices to call for immediate action and accountability.

Taking to social media, activist Joshua Akandwanaho expressed his grief and frustration, urging the Ministry of Education to launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young boy’s death.

“Sheer Negligence” at Victorious School

In a poignant message on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Joshua condemned the school’s negligence:

“Heartbroken by the demise of a precious young soul due to sheer negligence by Victorious School. No parent should endure such pain. How do you introduce toddlers to a public swimming pool with no safety wear?”

Joshua questioned why basic safety measures, such as proper supervision and appropriate swim gear, were ignored during the activity.

He also called on the Ministry of Education and Sports to set and enforce strict safety guidelines for school activities, particularly swimming.

“Ministry of @Educ_SportsUg, please set and enforce strict safety standards for school activities, especially swimming. This negligence is unacceptable and must never happen again. Rest in peace, little one,” Joshua wrote.

The tragic news has ignited a wave of sympathy and anger across social media. Many have called for the school to be held accountable for the apparent lack of safety measures that led to the untimely death of young Kalama.

Joshua extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, particularly to Juan Moses Mpumwire and his wife Juliana, urging the community to support them in their time of need.

“From myself, the @Official_NSOBA, and the @Kajogofc fraternity, may God comfort our brother Juan Moses Mpumwire and his wife Juliana in such difficult moments,” he added.

What Happened at Victorious School?

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but sources indicate that the pupil was introduced to the school’s swimming program without proper safety protocols in place.

The public is now calling for a swift investigation to determine the exact cause of the tragedy and to ensure such a preventable incident never occurs again.
