The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has enrolled 100 detectives for law diplomas at the Law Development Center (LDC) starting with the academic year 2018/2019.
More details indicate that 46 detectives were picked from police stations in different regions of the country while the remaining 56 are directly from the CID headquarters based in Kibuli.
The detectives’ studies have been financed by the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS).
According to Hamis Lukyamuzi Ddungu, the Public Relations Officer of LDC, the enrolled 100 detectives are studying with the rest of the students.
“We have 100 of them and they are studying together with other students. They were paid for by JLOS,” Ddungu said.
While commenting on their enrollment, the CID Head of Administration, Fred Enanga said that the detectives will benefit a lot from the Law course and this will help in the way they handle investigation files.
The JLOS paid a whooping UGX 1.5billion for the entire course duration of one year to LDC which has already been deducted UGX 1billion for the police.
It should be noted that a diploma in Law at LDC costs UGX 2.5million per student, which totals to UGX 2.5billion for the 100 detectives.
The enrolled detectives are from ranks of Corporal and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). The detectives are being equipped with basic knowledge in law which is expected to help them in their day to day interactions with their investigations.
