The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has graduated 1226 students from its four campuses namely Main Campus, Kampala Campus, Kampala Campus, Females Campus and Arua Campus during the 29th Graduation Ceremony held on Saturday, 10th April, 2021 at IUIU Females’ Campus Kabojja. The event was held virtually in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic except graduands who attended physically under strict COVID-19 preventive measures.
123 students graduated with Certificates, 169 with Undergraduate Diplomas, 783 with Bachelor Degrees, 25 with undergraduate diplomas and 126 with Master Degrees.
Speaking during the function, the new Rector of the university in Uganda Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda challenged the graduands to be innovative.
Professor Gyagenda urged the students to use the technological 21st Century to excel in their endeavours.
Professor Gyaganda who presided over his first graduation ceremony since ascending to the higher office of IUIU said this year the best student scooped a CGPA of 4.92.
“The best student was doing Bachelor of Sharia and he is Mr Jeylan Hashim Abdullah who has managed a CGPA of 4.92,” he said.
The best performer who is also a Quran Memorizer has been awarded the Prince Badru Kakungulu Award.
According to the Rector, the best innovative students of 29th Graduation Ceremony are Mr Masau Abdullatif and Salimo Rajab who have developed an E- Farm market App. The App will help to extend knowledge about online business in rural areas where farmers can directly negotiate price and sell their products. The two have been awarded the Rector’s Award.
In his remarks, First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda who is also the Vice Chairman of IUIU Council General Honorable Moses began by congratulating the new Rector Professor Gyagenda for ascending to the higher office after departing of Dr Ahmad Sengendo who is now the Assistant Secretary General (Economic Affairs) in Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Honorable Ali commended IUIU for its medical programs at Habib Medical School based at its Kampala campus that are contributing to quality health service provisions in Uganda, Africa and the World. Ali also commended the university for its efforts to fight to COVID-19 pandemic through innovations.
The scientific graduation ceremony was also a special one because of first eleven Quran Memorizers (Girls and Boys between 2 to 17 of age) who have graduated after Memorizing the Holy Quran within a year at IUIU Quran Memorizing Centre.
Among other high profile people who graced the IUIU 29th Graduation Ceremony include His Royal Highness Dr. Shehu Usman Chindo Yamusa III who is The Emir of Keffi from Nasarawa State of Nigeria, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Umar Sulaiman OFR who is The Emir of Bedde from Yobe State of Nigeria, Ismael Yusuf Musa a representative of AA Rano Company which is one of the biggest Oil and Gas Company in Nigeria new IUIU Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Dr Jamir Serwanga and UPDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Flavia Byekwaso.
