Over 25000 applicants are battling for slots to join Kyambogo University in the academic year 2023/2024, according to the university statistics.
24,068 have applied through diploma/certificate entry and direct entry while 1,530 graduates have applied to join the Banda based higher institution of learning bring the total of applicants to 25,598.
Prof. Eli Katunguka, PhD, the vice chancellor at Kyambogo University told journalists Tuesday at a press conference that they (university) can only be able to admit nearly half of the number that has applied.
“This is by all means a very big number. We cannot admit all of them. We shall admit maybe 10,000 to 12,000 and the rest will join other public and private institutions,” Katunguka said.
Prof. Katunguka further revealed that the admission lists for new entrants will be ready by mid July.
Kyambogo University has already admitted a total of 366 students on government merit.
The Kyambogo University vice chancellor also confessed that the second semester for the academic year 2022/2023 was quite hard because they were running three semesters instead of the usual two.
Katunguka said the university faced financial hardships and thanked the government for clearing the allowances of government sponsored students.
“I must thank the government for coming to our rescue especially in settling the government sponsored students allowances as that issue had threatened to erode the peace this university has been enjoying for some time now,” he said.
Kyambogo University will reopen for the first semester of the academic year 2023/24 on August 5th, 2023.
