The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has today told Parliamentarians that Makerere matters will only be discussed after the visitation committee has compiled its findings, and that is three months from now.
Oulanyah was responding to a question from Gulu woman MP, Hon Betty Aol Ocan, who demanded to know the fate of Makerere University students after the indefinite closure of the institution.
The Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda also distanced himself from the question of when Makerere will reopen, after several MPs tried to include the university’s stalemate on the plenary session’s agenda.
Rugunda, while responding to a question paused to him by Hon Ocan who was asking about when the university will be able to open, said the Visitation Committee has just started their work and the executive would also get back to Parliament on that matter after the committee’s findings
At the moment, the students’ normal academic schedule hangs in balance over the indefinite closure of the University not to mention the thousands that were expected to graduate in January next year.
