On Saturday 14th March, Nkumba University students cast their votes with an aim of choosing their new guild president.
The process went on smoothly throughout the day where students were heard singing the names of their favorite candidates with hopes of taking up this year’s guild position. Security officers from Police were at every corner of the campus to ensure that students voted peacefully.
At 6:30 pm the process of tallying votes started. After realizing that his NRM candidate Opira Otaremwa was trailing, a yet to be identified NRM supporter forced himself into the tallying room trying to show his discontent, police responded immediately and he was arrested for causing commotion.
Few minutes later, the vote counting and tallying process ended. Patrick Iparat Nkumba EC chairman declared Amagule Sunday an independent candidate as the next guild president of Nkumba University.
Sunday, a third year Law student won with 378 votes with only 74 votes separating him from the runner up Opira. Isaac Muhwezi, the former prime minster came in the third position with 79 followed by Faruku Mubiru with 37 and Paddy Lwazi with 08 in the fourth and fifth position respectively.
