After Kyambogo University sent a People Power candidate to the guild office on Thursday, Makerere University students decided that the cycle wouldn’t be complete without another in their own guild office.
In the polls that took place on Friday 15th March across all schools within the university, Julius Kateregga took the victory home after results were declared.
Kateregga, a second year student of Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAED) and resident of Mitchell hall polled 3,912 votes beating his closest challenger Mukisa Joshua William of third year law and resident of Lumumba hall. In the polls that were announced by the Electoral Commission at the guild offices, Arinda Osbert got 55, Kateregga Julius had 3,912, Mukisa Joshua 3,365, Musiri David 637!
Mutumba George polled 864, Namuddu Milly got1,298, Nsimire Winter had 81, NRM’s Taliwaku Julian got1,465 while Wageya Umar got 44 votes.
Consequently, Julius Kateregga was declared Guild President elect and he awaits swearing in.
His campaign was boosted on the final rally where Bobi Wine’s brother and musician Eddie Yawe made appearance amidst ululations and in a way legitimized his position as the People Power candidate in the race.
Kateregga will replace Veterinary Medicine student Papa Were Salim.
