As some students are struggling to ensure internship places, some fortunate ones are turning down the hard-to-get slots.
Snoops have learnt that a girl (name withheld) from one of the top private universities in the country lost an internship placement when she sought to “first fast and ask God whether she should take it up.”
This was revealed by the Chairman of the ICT Association of Uganda (ICTAU) and PC Tech Magazine founder Albert Mucunguzi in a tweet yesterday. The girl, who belongs to Phaneroo, believed she needed to first consult God about the offer that she had requested for in the first place.
“Someone was looking for internship placement. When she got an offer, she told the would-have-been employer that she belonged to Phaneroo, & needed to first fast, & wait for God to tell her whether to go or not” Mr. Mucunguzi tweeted wondering what had befallen this born-again generation.
When she got the offer to intern, she told her employers to wait as she first talks to God about it.
“Thanks, but now I’ll have to first fast, and will get back to you” she told them.
When contacted about the story, Mucunguzi declined to comment about it.
He refused to give any further details about the implication of the girl’s response to her would-be employers but reliable sources say she was turned down.
This is yet another calamity that has befallen interns simply because they acted without thinking twice. The most famous one being of the student in the US who cyber bullied and abused one of the directors at NASA while celebrating an internship acceptance there on Twitter. She also lost the placement.
