Police in Makerere University are investigating circumstances under which a phone thief was caught live on camera stealing a phone at the Schools of Economics, College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) on Friday.
Police says the lady whose names were declined to reveal as it was jeopardizing their investigations, was on Friday (April 30) caught on camera stealing a phone from a student’s bag.
The thief, police adds, has over 40 smartphones she has stolen in a space of five days, from when exams started on April 25, 2022.
“She had a list of all phones, stating the phone type, and the money she was expecting from them,” a police officer at Makerere police station stated.
Unfortunately, most of the phones were sold away.
“And most of these phones were sold away,” Police added.
All those students whose phones were stolen during the stated days of examinations are therefore asked to report to Makerere police station and make a statement to help them get back their phones.
After her arrest by Makerere University police station, the thief was handed over to Wandegeya police station and she is currently kept in their custody as investigations on the matter are ongoing.
