The annual Lumbox Carnival at Makerere is one of those SSDD (Same Shit Different Day) events. Despite efforts by the organizers to maintain calm, the Lumumba culture knows no peace language.
Saturday’s carnival was filled up by dry cold throats since most students chose to pocket and fold their broke arms instead of buying drinks to catalyze the fun.
Everyone seemed sober only for the Lumumba boys who took over the stage at 9:30pm and filled it with insane vulgar anthems. Yes this is not news we all know Lumumba is famous for rhyming incantations so what’s the news?. These boys after a full hour of hurling insults at the crowds, deejays and whoever cared to listen, were not ready to leave the stage.
We bow to the fact that it was a free entry carnival organized by their Solidarity (Lumumba and Mary Stuart halls) but then the posters indicated performances from Fille, Latinum, Ykee Benda and Sheebah not from the hall residents. And what happened to Ykee Benda and Sheebah’s appearance is another question of who foxed who?
Getting back to the boxing ring, upper cuts were exchanged between the Lumumba hall residents aka Boxers and the organizers who tried to put them into their right place. The event then went 30 minutes silent as police intervened trying to shut the event down.
We later understood their situation; that’s what thirsty boys do.
