At Makerere University, the proposal in Parliament to remove age limits from the Constitution was received with clenched mouths since day one. As early as 2am, police had been deployed allover the university to hinder any demonstration from students.
At the Freedom Square, a Police Truck laden with ready officers sat, waiting for any assailants. However, the students continued singing their famous demonstration chants and not doing any action.
This morning, lecture rooms at FEMA were also empty due to this. Most students opted to stay in their residences to avoid havoc. Any that was clad in a red gown; which is Makerere’s official undergraduate wear was whisked away by police, in line of preventive arrest, according to striking boys.
By press time, the boys had started marching from Halls of Residence in red gowns, headed to Parliament. We shall keep you posted.
