[PHOTOS] Heavy rains wash Madonna Hostel, Students left in regret

Kyambogo University and a few MUBS students residing in the luxurious Madonna Hostel were last evening left in tears, heavy anger and cursing why they ever settled in the hostel after the heavy rains that left the hostel fence in shambles.

The heavy rain washed away the perimeter wall fence of the hostel exposing their rooms to gutter filled with rubbish. Students that had locked themselves in their rooms were forced to seek for refuge in their friends’ hostel rooms in the upper floors. Others were later on picked up by their parents after the damage became worse.

The Madonna Hostel woes have a genesis.

The once glorious Madonna Hostel that swept all other hostels of their glory when it came to face is slowly losing its grip and fast becoming unpopular among students that once praised the hostel. Known to be the ‘rich kids’ hostel, the Akamwesi and Olympia of Kyambogo University, is slowly going down the drain as the fact of it being in a swamp come to haunt it.

Students are complaining that ever since the tremor passed a few weeks ago, the hostel has broken tiles and is in a worrying state and the management seems not to care. The location of the hostel has for a while been a worrying factor to the residents as the security to the hostel is not safe. Several residents have now and then complained to having lost their property to unknown thieves on several occasions.

The hygiene of Madonna hostel is another factor that has been of a great worry. Constant water outages and high rate of mosquitoes due to the location in the swamp leaving quite a number of students exposed to risk.

Madonna doesn’t have alternative pit latrines or toilets meaning if there’s no water residents forego using their toilets.

“We never have water so people have to line up at one tap and later carry buckets from ground level as far 6th floor just to take a bath”, a resident told this website.

Like as if that’s not enough, a source inside the hostel who preferred anonymity says that the hostel is allegedly harboring drunkards and drug users and every parent that learns of this vice does not return their children to the hostel.
“Man everything here is a mess”, a disgruntled neighboring resident lamented.

Efforts to reach the hostel manangement by press time were futile as our repeated calls and WhatsApp messages were not answered.
