Hundreds of students from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) today graduated from various disciplines during the institute’s 12th graduation ceremony that was held at Imperial Royale Hotel. The ceremony kicked off at 9am and it was graced by CPA David Kiwanuka as the guest speaker who also doubles as the Young Accountant of the Year 2019.
Various graduands walked away as Certified Public Accountants (CPA), Certified Tax Advisers (CTA), as well as Account Technicians. During today’s ceremony, several fresh graduates were awarded diplomas and certificates in Financial Accounting, Business Management and Information Systems among other courses.
While delivering his speech at the ceremony, the Institute’s President Fredrick Kibedi urged the fresh graduates to use the acquired skills in a bid to reach full potential.
“I also congratulate the graduands of the Accounting Technicians Diploma and the Certified Tax Advisor course. You have all made great strides in your career development and I urge you to use the knowledge acquired, to reach full potential.” Kibedi said.
Kibedi also told the graduates that ethics and personal conduct in vital at employment places while explaining that they will be hired because of their qualifications but it is the character that will keep the job.
“I must reiterate that ethical issues remain key for accountants. I urge the graduates to observe the principles of the Code of Ethics for professional accountants, as this is what will set you apart from the crowd.” He said.
Among today’s graduates was Comrade Guma, who completed the CPA course in 2 years and emerged as the paper prize winner for Advanced Financial Reporting.
Also present at the ceremony was CPA Derick Nkajja, the ICPAU Chief Executive Officer/Secretary. While speaking to the graduands, Nkajja urged them to seek opportunities to build their individual careers to benefit both themselves and the country.
“We are proud of you for having completed your Certified Public Accountant of Uganda course, Certified Tax Advisor course and Accounting Technicians Diploma course, and expects you to join the long list of accountants capable of producing quality service. As trained Ugandans in accounting, seek opportunities to build your individual careers to benefit yourselves, your communities and your country.” Nkajja said.
