Kansai Plascon, Uganda’s biggest paint company, partnered with the Indian Community tocelebrate the Holi Festival that was held on Sunday 20th March, 2022 at the Arya Samaj Grounds, Kololo.
Attracting close to 4,000 people, the festival was the first major Indian community event since the lockdown was lifted.
The festival originated from the community’s desire to celebrate good harvests and fertility. It heralds the onset of spring through a riotous celebration of color. It is all about fun, frolic, vibrant and beautiful colours that celebrate the victory of good over evil. The festival welcomes people from all walks of life. It eliminates all societal differences in age, colour and economic muscle by greeting the revelers with gulal (colored powder mixed with water) which the revelers shower upon each other.
The Holi Festival celebrates the legend of Hindu Goddess Radha and Lord Krishna, which describes the extreme delight Krishna took in applying color on Radha and others. It is said that when Krishna was a young boy, he asked his mother the reason for his dark complexion while Radha was so fair. His mother, Yashoda playfully suggested that he should smear color on Radha’s face and change her complexion to any color he wanted. He liked the idea and since then the play of colors on Holi became part of the festivities.
“Holi Festival is all about culture, colour, food and celebration. This festival of colors includes interesting rituals, ethnicity, traditional festivals and ceremonies. The mix of colors is energetic and this is a good time to look forward to the good that 2022 has to offer and celebrate together. We are here to relax and not to differentiate, but to rejoice in the spirit of brotherhood.” Kansai Plascon Managing Director, Santosh Gumte said.
Mr. Gumte congratulated revellers for reaching the joyful day and for celebrating an important festival. He reminded them that Kansai Paint, the Plascon mother company is established on key principles and values which include respect, integrity, and customer focus.
“It is on this basis that we join our customers and consumers to recognize and celebrate with them cultural and religious holidays such as this. This festival is about celebrating our culture, faith, food, identity and above all, the abundance of colour in everything around us. The mix of colours is energetic, and this is a good time to look forward to the good that 2022 has to offer and celebrate together.” He added.
The festival was graced by the Prime Minister, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.
