On the 5th of March 2020, the student fraternity of Kyambogo University chose to be so generous as to give back to its community. The students did that through a project spear headed by students under the MasterCard Foundation Alumni BRAC Uganda (MFABU) chaired by Paul Kyambadde at Kireka Home for the impaired , a special children’s school located along Kamuli-Jinja road.
Kyambadde with his team of benevolent souled colleagues were able to fundraise and mobilize from students and themselves food, clothing, sanitary pads, soap, beddings and detergent for the special needs residents of the institution who received these gifts with jubilation and delight. The team proceeded to give kind words to the children stating, “Disability is not inability.”
The institution head master, Mr Patrick Osiru met later on with our reporter and disclosed some of the issues and challenges the students are facing which included inadequacy of funds to operate as they have a high expenditure on mostly student medications. He then let on that the institution has only managed to survive because of the generosity of well wishers and kind hearted individuals.
Kyambadde’s team comprised of Asaph Ssembiro, Tumwebaze Oswald, Allen, Simon, Birungi Godfrey and many others who chose to stay anonymous.
“Being products of give aways, we find ourselves obliged to do the same,” the team leader told Campus Bee. He then continued to thank the MasterCard Foundation and the fraternity of Kyambogo for their plenteous donations and encouraged them to maintain and even intensify this splendid habit.
The school head girl, Laro Rachael took it upon herself to thank the team stating how useful and necessary the items delivered were to them and their well being.
“Most people just bypass us in their cars and motorcycles. They fill ashamed to even look upon us. Thank you for caring enough to come visit and associate with us. We appreciate it.” Quoted the Ability Group 6 little lady.
“Charity is injurious unless it helps the recipient to become independent of it.” John D. Rockefeller Jr.
