After six months of absence from the university following the president’s directive of closing schools in control of COVID-19, Samuel Mugasha, a second year student of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) found his hostel room robbed clean when he reported back yesterday to check on his stuff.
Mugasha who had come to pick some of his items from his hotel was surprised to find nothing left in the room but only the bedding with no mattress and all other items stolen by unknown thieves who are assumed to have done all this in the due course of the past few weeks.
In an interview with the victim, Mugasha told Campus Bee that the thieves never tampered with the padlock but instead broke the glasses on the window and used his own umbrella that he had left attached on the window to open from the inside where there was no padlock.
Among the Items stolen were a 32 inch television set, a sound system, mattress, suit case containig clothes and shoes, a centre table among others.
This happened in an enclosed but hidden hostel in the residential areas of TASO village, an area that accommodates about 30% of the whole university population.
A few months back, the same incident happened to students residing in Kashanyarazi, a residential area of the same institution where thieves took advantage of a wooden ceiling to steal property of students.
