A total of 1432 students walked away with degrees, diplomas, and certificates in various disciplines during Nkumba University’s 24th graduation ceremony. The event was held today, Saturday 26th February at the university’s main campus located along Entebbe Road, Wakiso District.
Nkumba University statistics indicate that 782 of the graduands are females (54.60%) and 650 are male (45.40%). Five students graduated with PhD degrees, 103 graduated with master’s degrees, 889 graduated with bachelor’s degrees. Additionally, 238 students graduated with diplomas while 110 graduated with certificates.
Ms. Nakalyango Violet emerged as the best undergraduate student who studied from the School of Business and Information Technology. Nakalyango pursued a Bachelor’s of Office Management and Secretarial Studies.
Ms. Namara Juliet also emerged as the best student in Diploma. She studied from the School of Education at Nkumba University.
While speaking to graduands, the newly installed Nkumba University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jude T. Lubega urged them to be responsible people while out there. He further advised them to be open-minded and flexible if they want to survive in this ever-changing economy.
“To survive in this economy you must have an open mind, you must learn new tricks. You must adapt and be flexible. Wherever you go after today, in whatever you do, adapt to the emerging trends within your industry, only then will you survive.” Prof Lubega said.
According to Prof. Lubega, the number of students graduating would have been much higher if it wasn’t for the COVID-19 Pandemic which affected their studies.
In his speech to the congregation, the Nkumba University Chancellor, Mr. Emmanuel Katongole congratulated graduands and parents following this education milestone. According to Katongole, those who planned well, the answer for ‘what next’ after graduation will come easy. On the other hand, hand, harsh reality will kick in for those who didn’t plan, according to Katongole.
“If you wish to stand out and excel in your career, you must practice capacity building at all times. Of course, studying will become challenging for some of you after getting extra responsibilities like marriage and parenthood.” Katongole told graduands.
According to Prof Lubega, Nkumba University is set to launch the School of Computing and Informatics in the next few months. The School will be based in Nkumba’s Kampala campus.
