A total of 344 students today walked away with degrees, diplomas, and certificates in various disciplines during Clarke International University’s 12th graduation ceremony.
The event, which also doubled as the university’s 14th anniversary was officiated by former Vision Group Managing Director Robert Kabushenga as the Guest of Honor. Also present at the event was Dr. Ian Clarke, the founder of Clarke International University, and Dr. D Zac Niringiye, the Chancellor.
During this ceremony, Emmanuel Taban emerged as the best student of Diploma of Clinical Medicine while Anthony Mambo Alex was the best research student following a project he carried out from South Sudan.
According to the Clarke International University Vice-chancellor Dr. Rose Nanyonga Clarke, the 12th graduation ceremony reflects strength and unity to deliver. Students’ studies were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but that didn’t deter them from carrying on, according to Nanyonga.
She added that the approval of Odel by the National Council for Higher Education helped students to learn online. In her advice to graduands, Dr. Nanyonga urged them to inspire leadership, spark innovation, and ignite transformation.
“We value you as important ambassadors of the university who will continue to make important contributions to the university and to the country in many ways. I want to remind you and the community here today that our best work is that we have prepared you well. It is now your responsibility to inspire leadership, to spark innovation, and to ignite transformation and make change happen.” She said.
While addressing the congregation, Robert Kabushenga advised the graduands not to consume mind-altering substances or they will pay the price. He also highlighted on Clarke International University founder, Ian Clarke’s story before telling graduands to learn from him.
According to Kabushenga, graduands should not take their opportunities for granted as he advised them to use the little they have to help others move forward.
“You must develop the capacity for pain. How much pain are you willing to take, to get to where you want to go?” Kabushenga challenged graduands.
“Expect to fail. Ian has failed many times and I know that.” Kabushenga advised graduands adding that “Expect that you will encounter difficult people, even the foolish ones, that one you will expect its a fact of life.”
Meanwhile Ms. Masika Immaculate was the best student of Post Graduate Diploma of Medical Education while Ayebare Flannan was the best student in Public Health (Degree).
The university also celebrated Dr. John Charles Okira who was promoted to full Professor of Management.
