During the Kampala International University (KIU) 23rd graduation ceremony that went down virtually on Saturday 24th April 2021, a total of 3,521 students from different academic disciplines graduated with different degrees, diplomas and certificates.
KIU’S 23rd graduation ceremony became the second virtual graduation event due to limitations on gatherings in a bid to slow the spread of COVID 19.
Out of the total number of graduands, 2135 (61%) are males and 1386 (39%) females. More statistics indicate that 1849 awards have gone to arts, humanities, business, education and law while 171 are postgraduates, including three PhDs. The western Campus had the biggest number of graduands (54%).
According to the KIU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, the university has recorded a 4% increment in science-based awards which is equivalent to 47% of the graduands compared to the 22nd graduation that happened in August 2020 .
During the 23rd graduation ceremony, only 22 students among bachelor’s degree holders scooped first-class honours degrees. who received a certificate of merit for their outstanding performance. Mpezamihigo urged all graduands to adequately prepare and become logical, flexible and adaptable as they join the job hunting field.
‘’Please remember that you are graduating during very unpredictable times, in which there are global crises of all sorts. This calls upon each one of you to adequately prepare to be reasonable, flexible, adaptable, logical and understanding as you look around for a job,’’ Mpezamihigo said.
Graduation is more “sweet” when one rocks a graduation gown, well, we have managed to gather a few pics from graduands who organised a shoot outside the univeristy premises to celebrate their education milestone.
