Yesterday Monday 6th April 2020, the Makerere University Central Management held its first online meeting to discuss the University work during this crisis of coronavirus outbreak.
This was done to adhere to the ministry of health’s guidelines of observing social distance and prevention of physical gatherings.
The meeting was chaired by the university Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe with other members communicating with him directly from their homes on video conference platforms.
According to the statement on Makerere University official Facebook page, the management made several recommendations for policy and restructuring of the academic year that was disrupted by the closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, the management valued the work done by the College of Health Sciences and its partners in assisting the government to fight the pandemic.
“Management has also noted that the exemplary work done by our researchers at the College of Health Sciences particularly the EpiTent, the Rapid testing kit for COVID-19 and the ventilator project undertaken jointly with Kiira Motors and the University of Florida. Details on the ventilator project are going to be shared in the communications,’’ the statement states.
